Mero Baze is born in the Village of Peshtan near Tepeleni.
This document shows that Mero Baze is from Peshtan and has been written by Albanians
Where does Peshtan take its name?
There is only one Pestian. The Pestian was once called Kryovrisi/Κρυόβρυση of Thesprotia. It means cold springs in Greek. Peshtan in Albanian is a transliteration from Turkish (Peştan).
People from Pestiani/Kriovrisi were Greeks. They gave the same toponyms to Epirus which was part of Greek Macedonia.
Greek inscriptions were found in Mariovo where the village of Pestiani/Κρυόβρυση in North Macedonia is.
Later the village of Pestiani/Κρυόβρυση of Macedonia, Greece, was invaded by Bulgars, Serbs, and Turks.
The Bulgars, Serbs, and Turks moved to North Epirus.
In order to hide the origins of the name, Pestiani/Κρυόβρυση Albanians change the name of the village to Peshtan from Turkish- Peştan
Later the name of village Peshtan, in Tepeleni was changed to “Qyteze” - it means small city.
The village was once Greek. In the book, Declaration of the Northern Epirotes from the districts of Korytsa and Kolonia demanding union of their native provinces with Greece you can see many people from Peshtani with Greek names asking to have Union with Greece.
The document below, shows how the Albanian Government proposed a name change for the villages of Tepeleni in 1938, so they wouldn’t sound Slavic and in order to hide the Bulgarian identity of many of them. The Albo government Albanized the names of the villages.
So the village of Mero Baze is not Albanian at all but mostly Bulgar. And Mero’s name is Turk. Mero Baze’s father -Guri Baze, fought the Greeks. Is Mero’s family Turk mixed with Bulgars? We don’t know. But he is not Albanian.
