French Numismatist: Apollonia has Doric Coins - (Koleksionisti Francez: Apollonia ka Monedha Dorike)
Former French Navy general Joseph Pellerin went on to become a renowned numismatist and archeologist. He was one of the pioneers of numismatic science because of his collection of medals of monarchs, peoples, and cities. The French king purchased his collection in 1776, and it is currently housed in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.

In 1759 Joseph Pellerin wrote a letter to his friend Jean-François Séguier about the discoveries of his coins. Seguier was a French archaeologist, epigraphist, astronomer and botanist from Nîmes.
In the letter to his friend Joseph Pellerin revealed that the ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΑΤΑΝ coins he had assumed to be Lydian (Anatolia) were actually Epirote and in Doric language.
He writes the ending -TAN is not used in Lydia but in Epirus.
