Chalkokondyles Albanians Are Not Illyrian- Kalkondili Pranon qe Shqiptaret nuk jane Ilire por erdhet nga Kaspiku
Laonicus Chalkokondyles was a Byzantine Greek Historian. He lived in the court of Constantinos Palaiologos and was taught by George Gemistos Plethon. He is one of the Byzantine historians who recorded the events of the Fall of Constantinople (1453). He contributed to the cultivation of the study of Byzantine and Ottoman history and of ancient Greek historiography in the Renaissance.
In his book "Laoniku Kalkokondylu Athēnaiu Apodeixis Historiōn Deka" he writes about Albanians not being Illyrians>
"Therefore it is established that the opinion of those who say that the Illyrians are the people we call Albanians is not based on truth. Nor do I accept the principle of those who try to argue that the Albanians are of Illyrian origin.
"For although I know that the Albanians, coming from Epidamnus, migrated into the maritime region of Europe facing the East, and having subdued Aetolia, Acarnania, and also a large part of Macedonia, came to dwell there-I have been led to this view by many conjectures and much that I have heard about the matter-I do not know with certainty whether they, as some think, crossed from Iapygia into Epidamnus and from there reached the region they eventually occupied, or whether, being neighbors of the Illyrians around Epidamnus, they gradually moved into the eastern region around Epidamnus and occupied it."
"This was the case with both the Tribalians (Bulgarians and the Albans), who, having rushed from the Ionian country, advanced towards the Europe, and conquered the same country, and having not suffered a little at first, they advanced towards the evening, almost as if they were approaching the Black Sea (Euxine Sea) and they came to the Istria, as far as Thessalia."
Pont Euxinos was once called the Black Sea where Albanians seemed to have been pushed towards Europe from Bulgarians.
Pontus Euxinus njihej dikur si Deti i Zi, ku Shqiptarët u shtynë drejt Evropës nga Bullgarët.
