Omonia, PanHellenic Unity Since Alexander- Omonia – Uniteti Panhelenik Që Nga Koha e Aleksandrit

Omonia or Homonoia was a Greek Goddess and daughter of Ares and Aphrodite. She was worshipped in Athens and Olympia. On the Greek coins she is seen with the Diana of Ephesus another name for Aphrodite. Romans called her Concordia. The cult of Omonoia was the same as the cult of Zeus.

She is also called the Goddess of peace concord and unity. Omonia Square in Athens gets its name from the Greek word "omonoia" (ομόνοια), which means peace, concord, like-mindedness, or unity. That is the where the Omonia Party in Himara gets its name too.

Omonoia or Homonoia became an imperial and Pan-Hellenic ideal. Isocrates argued in his Panegyricus that true concord among Greeks could only be forged by uniting under a shared crusade against Persia.

Kulti i Omonias ishte i njëjtë me kultin e Zeusit.

Macedonian Hellenistic Era: Philip II of Macedon used the ideal of homonoia to justify the League of Corinth in 337 BCE, therefore portraying himself as Greece's unifier. Homonoia, which sometimes celebrated alliances between different cities (e.g., homonoia accords between Ephesus, Smyrna, and Miletus), became a regular subject on local currency and civic documents during the Hellenistic era.

Alexander the Great
The defining historical moment linking Alexander to Homonoia occurred at Opis (324 BCE) near Babylon. Alexander hosted a massive reconciliation banquet for 9,000 guests, including Macedonians, Persians, and representatives from across his empire.
According to Arrian,  Alexander concluded the feast with a famous prayer:
He prayed for all good things, and especially for Homonoia (concord) and Koinonia (partnership in power) between the Macedonians and the Persians.

Aleksandri i Madh

OMONOIA on the Greek coins shows a confederation between two towns.

Civic Peace (Anti-Stasis): Within a single polis, Homonoia was the antidote to civil war and class conflict between oligarchs and democrats. Classical thinkers viewed homonoia as essential for the survival of the democratic or republican order.

Pan-Hellenic Unity: Beyond individual city-states, the concept evolved into a political campaign to unite the warring Greek polis against external powers, particularly the Achaemenid Persian Empire.

Fifth Century BCE: Thinkers like Democritus and Antiphon framed homonoia primarily as an internal virtue within a city, stressing that a community divided against itself could not withstand foreign threats.
