Sergio Raftanis established his Parnassos ΤΥΠΟΓΡΑΦΕΙΟΝ Ο ΠΑΡΝΑΣΣΟΣ printing house in Zakynthos around 1851. He was Epirote from Kalarrytes. The surname derives from the Greek word (ράφτης), meaning tailor. They were initially silversmiths and merchants,before expanding into trade, printing, and scholarship in the 19th century. He named the typografeio Parnasso, because the Mount Parnassus was revered in ancient Greece as the home of Apollo and the nine Muses—the patron goddesses of literature, poetry, history, and the arts. Raftanis is particularly well known in Greek literature for his printing house, "Parnassos" , and for his significant contribution to the rescue, editing and publication of great works of the era.
