Stamperia Epiro in Sicily - Shtepia Botuese Epirote ne Sicili

Epirotes who moved to the south of Italy gave themselves the last name D'Epiro (From Epirus). The designation "Epiro" (or d'Epiro) explicitly denoted the region of origin—Epirus. Agostino Epiro, Antonino Epiro, Giacomo, and Giuseppe Epiro opened printing houses in Italy and their printing house worked for the Italian Senate, Courts and Inquisition. Tipografia d'Antonino Epiro was the physical printing house that produced major royal decrees, scientific treatises, religious texts, and illustrated festival books for the Kingdom of Sicily. Giacomo Epiro (Son of Agostino): Took over the running of the family press in the mid-18th century following Antonino.Giuseppe Epiro (Grandson): Continued the printing shop into the late 18th century. By the 1790s, members of the family (such as Don Antonino Epiro, Soprintendente) were still serving in administrative and directorial roles in Sicilian state printing (Stamperia). Antonino Epiro says the book is an excellent printer of the Italian Senate in Sicily.

The Epiro family had been printers for generations, with a royal warrant. They had a particular status as printing establishment, being the 'regia stamperia'. In 1691, and at least as far back as 1685, the house was run by Giacomo Epiro. By 1696, it was Agostino Epiro, who was still running the publishing house at least until 1714. The Epiros were later ennobled as barons.
